The s.s. Kowena arrived from Tauranga and Morcury Bay yesterday evening, with numerous passengers arid a small quantity of maize. She is advertised to retura to the same ports this evening. In yesterday's issue we stated that the p.s. Hauraki arrived in tho Manukau on "Wednesday afternoon from Waitara. The information was supplied to the Customs in our hearing by a captain of one of the vessels lying at Oneliunga, who stated the steamer was coming in as he left his vessel for town. JThere wis no notice on the telegraph board of the Haur&ki's arrival at a late hour last night. The schooner Korer sailed last night for Whangarei, with a quantity of timber and stores. The officers cf th s.b. Kowena reported sightlast night. Sho will probably prove to be one of the following vessels : —Ada C. Owen (from the Islands), Roderick Dhu (from Melbourne), Helena, (from th« South), or the Rhyno (from Suwarrow Island). The ketch Pemrl sailed yeaterday morning for Karotonga, with a full cargo of merchandise suitable for the Island traffic. The Union Company's s.s. Taupo sailed last night for the South.via East Coast, with a large number of passenger* for all ports. Her cargo wav also large, &s per our export list. The barque Bella. Wary cleared at the Customs yesterday for ticbavt Town, and will sail some time to-day. If all favoured with fair winds, Captain JFiaher expects to be in port again within six weeks. The barque Stag, from Newcastle, entered in at the Customs yesterday, and has commenced to discharge her cargo of coal at the Railway "Wharf. The barque Bengal, Captain Hummel, from Adelaide, arrived in harbour yesterday, after a passage of 22 days. She brings a cargo of wheat and bark, and is consigned to Messrs. Stone Brothers. The barque sailed from Port Pirie on the 3rd inst., and had lighc east and southerly variables down Spence's Gulf to Cape Otway, which was passed on the 9th day out. Off Wilson's Promontory the following day, and thence to the Three Kings fine U. and 2s.\V. breezes and smooth sea. Sighted the latter on Tuesday last at 11.30 a.m. ; down the coast westerly weather, sighting Tiritiri ac 10 p.m. on Thursday, and making the harbour yesterday at noon. The brig Restless, Captain Fleck, arrived in harbour yesterday mcming from Newcastle, N.S.W., after a passage of 10 days, with a cargo of coal consigned to Messrs. Henderson and Macfarlane. She left that port on the Gth instant, the same day as the barque Stag, whi :h arrived on Wednesday evening. Experienced light easterly winds for the first two days, and on the 9th and 10th heavy squalls and «.onfusod seas, accompanied with hea,vy rain. A strong south-east gale subseouently arose, and continued until the 14th, wheu the weather moderated, and Lord Howe's Island was passed on the 15th. Thence to the Ihree Kings light south-east winds, and these islands were made early on Tuesday. Down tho coast strong westerly weather. The A.S.S. Co.'s s.s. Southern Cross will arrive from Napier at an early hour this morning. She is advertised to return to the same port a 5 o'clock this evening. The schooner Energy is rapidly filling up for the Friendly Islands, and will sail positively on Tuesday next. The brig Moa will most piobably sail for Kaipara, to load with timber for a Southern port. The three-masted schooner Fairlie sailed from Lyttelton on Wednesday, for the Manukau, with a cargo of grain, kc., for Messrs. Bycroffc and Co., of Onehunga.
