DEPUTATIONS TO THE NATIVE MINISTER.
A deputation of Justices of the Peace waited yesterday on the Hon. the Native Minister, aud pointed out that the Clerk of the Court of Petty Sessions was not sufficiently remunerated, and asked that his salary be increased. Mr. Sheehan pointed out that it was probable that Petty ■Sessions Courts, as at present constituted, might probably be dispensed with altogether, but lie promised to institute inquiries, and inform the deputation of the result. A deputation, consisting of Mr. Jerome Cadmau, Mr. J. B. Hannah, and others interested in the Cororaandel district, waited on the Hon. J. Sheehan yesterday, for the purpose of urging on his attention the desirability of the Government subsidising the work of prosecuting the Coromandel tunnel. I hey pointed out how large the expenditure on this work had already been, and how necessary it was to the welfare of their district that an important prospecting work of this nature should be carried on. The company who had undertaken the work had exhausted their means, and they now requested the cooperation of the Government. The reply of the Native Minister was not very encouraging. The Government had no money to devote to purpo3e3 of this sort.
