HAMILTON.
Sir G. Grey and party arrived in Hamilton about 8.30 p.m., on their return from Alexandra via To Awamutu and Cambridge, and after dining received three deputations. Tho first consisting of Messrs. Vialou, Hume, Morris, N. A. Cox, Martin, and Cumming, were introduced, and +ead the resolutions passed at tho public meeting of last Thursday, regarding the extension of the railway into Hamilton. The cost was stated to be : For laying down tho lino, £2488 ; station buildings, &c., £700; 4J acres of laud, to be purchased at £50 per acre, £225, and 2 acres, at £IGO, £200 ; total cost, £3613 ; and the estimated cxcess of freight over that at present carried was £400 per month for Hamilton, and £400 per month for Piako and Cambridgo goods, which at present go up tho river. Sir George said that the Cambridge people were going to petition for the extension also, as it was of great importance to them. Tho deputation were told to put everything in a letter, and to forward all necessary data to Wellington. One gentleman, in speaking of the rates of freight, stated that what cost him. 2s 4d by the steamer to bring from Auckland, had cost 4s lOd freight by tho train. Tho next deputation requested assistance for the Waikato Council towards the Wliangamarino bridge, which required to be rebuilt. The next with regard to obtaining the use of the reserves in tho Borough received satisfactory information, the Premier Btating that the £3,000 would be forthcoming almost at once for the bridge, and the Borough would receive a letter to that cll'ect.
