HUNUA HIGHWAY DISTRICT.
During the recent visit of the Premier and Native Minister to Auckland Mr. J. B. Hay, Chairman of the Hunua Highway Board, accompanied by Messrs. S. Cossey and Wallace, waited on them as a deputation to convey a resolution of the Board to the Ministers. The resolution was as follows:— " The ratepayers of this district having been informed that the Legislature has voted £40,000 for works in the Provincial District of Auckland, and this being a locality in which great difficulties are encountered in opening up tho back part thereof, and quite beyond the means of the Koad Board for years to come, request that the sum 'of £1000 be set aside by the Government for improving the main road froni Hunua 'Railway Station to the boundary of tHe -confiscated lands. At present goods are convoyedon packhorses. The above sum would make the road available for cart traffic, ,anu conduce to the speedy settlement of the district."— This resolution was "passed at a meeting of the ratepayers, held at Papakura on the Gth instant; Mr. Hay in the chair. The deputation, having been introduced, stated their business, and presented tho resolution, the gentlemen urging arguments in favour of compliance with the request contained in it. —Tho Ministers intimated that they would do what they could to carry out tho prayer of the petition.
