THE ROAD TO WALWERA.
TO TJIli CU1TOI:. Sii:, —Wo are not ro short-sighted as to fail to .sec that tho Hot Springs will become before many years of vast importanco to this part of the country, and consequently are jjlad t.isecMr. Graham with his characteristic enterprise pushing for u. road, but we do object to the funds for our main load being dive, ted—that is to Hay we object to the threat highway North beinj,' made subservient to the Hot Spring Hotel. The settlers have for years been led to expect, and have had to pay for their properties a price higher for its abutment on this North road so well set out in the Land Ollice and on our deeds ; but there its projectors leavo us. Now, sir, the inhabitants from Stoke'a Point, aa one man, raise their voices for this ror.d to be carried on through the Waiuui to Mr. Murray's, tho head of the Waiwera. We will be most happy to see a road from any part of this, the old Great North Road, to the Hot Springs, either by a drawbridge over the Orewa or down the banks of the Waiwera, but in no case shall the Great North Road be diverted without our most strenuous opposition, because it would open the country to the settled population, and fortunately the Orewa drawbridge and the Waiwera drawbridge stands in our favour.- —I am, &c, A.
