POLICE COURT.— Wednesday.
[Before Mr. A. Tieetham, J.P.] Riotous Females.—Minnie -Burke was accused of having been drunk and disorderly in Lorne-street; also with being a rogue, a vagabond, and a common prostitute, and with behaving in a riotous manner in Lomestreet, and having been previously convicted as an idle and disorderly person. She appeared in tho dock with her head muffled in a red shawl, which she refused to remove. The constablo said the woman was mad drunk, tearing her clothes and hair in Lome street yesterday. She pleaded guilty to the first charge, and not to the second. Constable Gleeson was examined as to her conduct ou the previous day, and Sergeant Major Mason gave evidence as to her bad character. Detective Jeffrey was also examined. Mr. Cunningham proved previous convictions, and she was sentenced to six months' imprisonment. Upon hearing t\ie sentence, the woman viciously threw a bottle which she had concealed on her person at (jlecson, but it struck the Sergeant-M.vjor in the face, indicting a wound. She was promptly replaced iu the dock, and sentenced to two months extra. She made use of the mobt tilthy language outside the Court, and on leaving the dock. — Mary Ann O'Brien pleaded quilty to having been drunk in Queen-street, and was lined 10?, or in default 4S hours' imprisonment.— Klizab'jth Deidrick pleaded guilty to having been drunk and disorderly. It was her fourth offence within three months. She was also charged under the Vagrant Act with beiug an habitual drunkard and a disorderly person. Mr. Cunningham proved the previous cenvictious, ami she was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment for the two offences.
