A friend ol Grattan proposed to cut down a line old tree because it stood in the way of the house. About 1-10 Chinamen start on their return to China to-day in the barque Marie, which sails for ifoug Kong. The Custom-house has been visited by them during the past week for the purpose of paying duty on the •'old which they have determined to take to the Flowery Laud. It amounts to 14000z5., passed for duty by 56 Chinamen, but it is impossible to correctly ascertain what each man's share would he, as the amount set down to an individual Chinaman would probably belong to a party. These men are mostly miners, and have been in this country as a rule over four years.
