NEW WHARF AT TAURANGA.
Ten'dsi:s are advertised for the construction of a wharf in the harbour of Tauranga, that port which, if the district had been properly managed, would by this time have been a busy place. This wharf, which will be of immense public benefit, i 3 being built by 8-jvcral of the settlers of Taurauga, showing chat the district, which seemed in danger of becoming proverbial for lethargy and stagnation, lias energetic men in it. The tievv wharf will be in the form of the letter L, the projecting part being, of course, furthest out iuto the channel. The structure will be :W0 feet over all, and the projection SO feet. It will accommodate three steamers, will have a depth of 10 feet 2 inches at low water spring tides, and will thus accommodate any s>'.earner Hkuly to trade to the port. The wharf will be built in front of 11 ai ingtonstreet, leading to the Government Buildings and iiea:-thu laurauga Hotel. It is estimated that it will be completed in three months. We hope to see Tauranga make progress in other respects, so that the new wharf may soon have abundance ot" trade. The settlers have of late shown a good deal of spirit in urging on the Government to remove the incubus that has so long rested ou the dUtriet, and they have only to continue their exertions to be suceessiul in the long run.
