THE COMING MAYORALTY.

TO THE EDITOB. Sib, —Allow me to correct the statement in your issue of the 27 th instant, to the effect that I was likely to stand for the position of Mayor in the coming Mayoralty contest. I would simply state that I have no such intention, for I have always felt that I could serve the public infinitely better in the position of a Councillor than in that of a Mayor, and at the same time have a very muob better chance of retaining that independence of character, without which public men become a curse, rather than a blessing to a community.—l am, &c, D. GOLDIE.
