Confllct ia expected to sail to-morrow for New Hebrides, and, after a short stay, will proceed to Sydney, via New Caledonia. h All accounts against the barque John Matthues mutt be rendered in duplicate to Mr. Goodhue, before -noon to-day. The schooner Transit cleared at the Customs on '' Saturday, in ballast, for the Thames, there to load 'timber for the South. The schooner Canterbury, bound for this port, left Itapier a few hours before the Fairlie, and is reported -to be ontside. The barque John Matthues, contrary to expectations, did not clear at the Customs on Saturday, but ■will do bo early this, morning. She hauled into the stream, and is expected to sail to-merrow. The a.9. Bowena arrived in harbour on Saturday, with a numerous passenger list and a quantity of wool. She has been placed on the gridiron at Gore-street jetty, and will receive an overhaul prior to sailiog on Friday next. The s.s. Pretty Jane, which has been lying on the . gridiron at the North Shore for examination by the .tenderers for repairing her, has now b;eu taken over to Mechanics' Bay, adjacent to Messrs. Fraser and Tinne's establishment, the successful tenderers. Captain Farquhar, of the lona, s.s., reports speaking the whaler Isabella on Thursday afternoon. Her boat had been fast to a whale the previous day, but - the iron drew. The produce of the last two whiles amounted to 9 tuns. The lona, s.s., arrived from Russell and Northern Eorts on Saturday. She experienced fine weather on er hozue trip, sighting a three-masted schooner, the Loch Lee, off Stevenson's Island, on Thursday, and the barquentine Emu on Friday night. She brought an nnngnal quantity of gum and wool. The American barque Europa has moved from the railway wharf to hex old position alongside the barque H«rtba, to take in lier original cargo of guano. The .repairs are not yet completed, but so far as they have proceeded, Messrs. Blgelow and Sons have done their work to the satisfaction of the surveyors, who made a preliminary inspection on Friday. The Jane Douglas, s.s., arrived in harbour on Saturday. CaptHin Fraser reports that a heavy roll prevailed on the coast, coming from the N.E., which prevented thb Bteamer from calling at the numerous ports to which she is a trader. The steamer has gone over to the North Shore, to be placed on the gridiron, there to receive a thorough cleansing of her bottom. Captain Fraser iDforms us that the Gisborne bar is blocked up to vessels drawing more than 6 feet 6 inches. The Jane Douglas and Go-Ahead had to lighten their cargoes. The three-masted schooner Fairlie, Captain Norris, arrived in harbour last night from Dunedin,. via Napier. She left the Southern port on the 4th inst., .calling at Moeraki for cargo. While at this latter place the weather was very bad, aDd as the anchorage is an open roadstead, it was anything but agreeable. - The bottom is bad holding ground, and at one time, with 66 fathom of chain out, she dragged a little. From thence to Napier had variable weather, with head winds and fierce squalls occasionally. I)is- - charged Napier cargo into lighters, and left there on Tuesday last with a fair wind and drizzly weather up to the East Cape, which was reached on Saturday. From thence into port, fair wind and splendid -weather. The Fairlie is loaded with produce, 4c. The s.s. Hawea, Captain E. Wheeler, arrived at the Onehunga wharf at 4.30 pm. yesterday. She left Port Chalmers at 3 p.m. on the 20th, arrived at Ly tteiton at noon on the 21st, sailed at 8 p.m. same evening, arrived at Wellington at 3 p m. on the 22nd, left a<r«in at 4.30 a m nn the 23rd ; arrived at Picton at 9 S0 a.m., and flailed at 11 o'clock same morning, arrived at Aelaon' at 11.40 same evening; sailed at ■6 p.m. on the 24th; arrived off Taranakl at 8 a.m., sailed again at 5 p.m, arriving at Onehunga as above. Experienced strong northerly breeze to Wellington; from thence light winds and fine weather.. We are indebted to Mr. W. Dougherty, purser, for report and files. The Loch three-masted schooner. Captain Stevenson, arrived in harbour last night from Tonga, with passengers and Island produce, us per respective lists. The Captain reports leaving Tongatabu, . Friendly Islands, at noon of the Bth November; in sight of Tonga for three days becalmed; thence southeast and south light winds until making the land at Stephenson Island, Wangaroa Bay, on Thursday, the 23rd, at daylight; since then light winds from the south. The following vessels were spoken during the passage, and desired to be reported:—November 14th, ' American schooner Lovel Peacock, from -an Francisco to Adelaide, 37 days out, lat. 24 deg. 30 min. south, long. 178 deg, 48 min. west; November 17th, spoke the John Wesley, from Sydney, 12 days out, bound for Tongatabu, Friendly Islands, lat. 27 deg. 51 min. south, long.' 179 deg. 25 min. east; same day, saw a small fore-and-aft schooner standing to the < ' north-east; November 2nd, Cian Alpine, schooner, of Auckland, from Auckland, arrived at Tonga, 21 day* out; November sth, arrived at Tonga from Auckland, schooner Helena, 24 days ont. . ~ U.NHE4WORTHV Vebsfi/j.—From a return just • Issued, by the British Government, we find that in the two months-of January arid February last the total xnjnber of vessels detained as unseaworthy,'on ~ account of alleged defects In hull, equipment, or ' ' . machinery, was 45.
