NEW ZEALAND TELEGRAMS.
[SPZCIAI TELEGRAM:TO THE "HEEAID." WELLINGTON, Thursday, 8 p.m. MR. BROOMHALL'&SPECIAL StSTTLE- - ...:..-, ; MENT; ■ • .The General Government seem desirous to meet the' wishes Of Mr. Broomhall, the English representative of the Temperance Special Settlement. Prom enquiries at the Government offices I learn that the Provincial Secretarytjf Auckland and Mr. J; C. Firth have urged on Sir George Grey and the Government the necessity of meeting the wishes of' Mr. Broomhall in his endeavours to procure some blocks of land for the members of thVsociety which he represents. Auckland telegrams have been also received from private persons, which go to shew that the recommendations of Sir Julius Vogel at the interview between himself and Mr. , Broomhall - went only the length of the former gentleman advising the latter in proceeding to Wellington, and putting himself direct in communication with the Ministry ; and I understand that Major Atkinson has also wired Mr." Broomhall,' suggesting his doing so, and before Parliament rises. The Waste Lands Bill, by which land can be sold on the deferred payment system,: and which is likely.to go through all its stages, and obtain the Governor's, assent, will, in my opinion, largely help Mr. Broomhall in making his visit to the colony a success. Sir: George Grpy and the other Auckland representatives are reported to be in favour of the gentleman's request being granted, and if such be the case, colonists and their families have a right to expect equal concessions in the acquiring of land on the de- ' ferred payment system.
