VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
AUCKLAND V. OTAGO. A friendly rifle match was fired off at Dunedin on the 17th October between three members of the City Guards, formerly North Island volunteers, and three old members of the same company representing Otago. The conditions were new Wimbledon targets (round), which are much smaller than the square target. Tho distances were 600, 500, and 200 yards ; five shots at each range; any position at the longer ranges, and Hythe position at the 200 yards. The scores were very small, which may be accounted for by the stiff breeze which was blowing right across the range. The match resulted in the Auckland men winning by five points. Annexed are the scores :— AUCKLAND HEN. 200 600 600 yds. yds. yds.
