At the District Court, after hearing one local case, His Honor Judge Fenton adjourned the Court till the 19th October, when the case of the Golden Calf v. Central Italy, and Fraser v. 0. M. Creagh, will be heard. Tne news from the Waitekauri battery has caused great enquiry for stock, and the quality of stone brought from the mine has caused an advance in price not only in the Waitekauri but in the other claims in the vicinity. COROMANDEL, Friday. Union Beach.—The diver again descended into the shaft to-day, and after three or four attempts was successful in casting off the chain, which was hoisted to the surface. A. large number of persons were present on th« mine, and the diver was greeted with hearty cheers. The men are now engaged making everything ready to start the engine the first thing in the morning. The Golconda Company evidently intend resuming operations. Mr. Carew has been appointed mine manager, and work will at once be commenced to clear the old drives, preparatory to a proper start. Ihe Bleak House have intersected a nice looking lode about three or four hundred feet from the mouth of their drive.
Well's (Pride) tribute are crashing 6 tons stuff, at the Arrow battery. Bishop's tribute (Pride) have crushed specimens and general dirt. The specimens yielded IS ozs., and the general dirt the same : total, 36 oza. gold. [press agency.] NAPIBB, Friday. Tenders have been invited for the reclamation and formation of streets in the Napier town swamp, tenders to be opened at noon November Ist. The skull and other portions of a human body were found yesterday in Scully's gully, by workmen quarrying stone for the Napier harbour works. The remains were buried about a foot under the surface. They are supposed to be those of a Maori. It is evident from the decayed state of the bonea that the body must have lain buried there many years. At the Volunteer parade last evening a letter from Mr. Close was read by Captain Routledge, suggesting that the corps should form a fire brigade. It was agreed that the corps give co-operation and assistance at fires to protect property and preserve order, but not to act as a salvage corps. NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday. The first tapping at iron-work will take place to-night. AKAROA, Friday. A man named George Bouncer committed suicide by hanging himself this morning at German Bay. He mounted a stool aud suspended himself from the roof of the cowshed by a leg-rope, and kicked the stool from under him. WESTPORT, Friday. A human skeleton was found buried on the bauk of the Ohiha river, some miles from Westport. The flood washed away tho bauk, revealing the bones partly shrouded ia a sack. On the feet were watertight boots. The skull was smashed, evidently ad indication of murder. HOKITIKA, Friday. The Secretary of the Mount Rangitoto Silver Mine Company has received the following telegram • from Mr. Hickland, Melbourne: —"The latest assay of Rangitoto ore gave 80 ozs. to the ton of ore."
