AUCKLAND IMPROVEMENT COMMISSIONERS.

A meeting of the Auckland Improvement Commissioners was lield in tlie Board's office at Alhert Barrack reserve yesterday. Tlie following members were present: — Messrs. G. M. O'Rorkc (in the chair), D. Fenton, T. Heale, and P. L. Prime. The minutes of- tlie last meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence.—A letter was received from the Town Clork, stating that the Board had no funds at its disposal for drainage in Grafton Road.—Mr. Fenton did not think there would be any money for such a purpose so long as there were such grand and useful undertakings as the cutting down o£ H.obson-street in hand. —A letter was read from the Gas Company announcing the reduction in the price of gas. From January last the lamps will be charged at the rate of £7 53 each per six months. A letter from the Public Works office stated that the premises of the Board occupied on behalf of the Government would be vacated without further delay than was necessary, but that at the present time it was inconvenient to give up possession. A letter from. Mr. J. Johnson was read, requesting the Board to take steps to remove the powder stored in the magazine. The Secretary had received a note from Major. Tisdall, informing him thatthere was nopowder stored in the expense magazine, and that all that was kept there was some boxes, perfectly secured, containing metallic cartridges, It was agreed that a copy of Major Tisdall's letter should be sent to Mr. Johnson. Leases in Princes-street. —The Board was requested by letter from Mr. Johnson to bring to an issue the following question The claims of the lessees of allotments fronting Princes-street on the west side, to have the right of entry from Princes-street front, allotment jS t o. 14, to tlie right of Wc-iy in the rear of the allotments, now entered solely from Bo'wen-street; as the arrangement, as at present, of entering from Bowenstreet the back allotments, renders them practically unapproachable. — Mr. Heale thought that there was no reason to doubt that access would be given to the allotments, but they could not bind themselves to any line until the park was laid out, but until this should be done, there could be no objection to their using the allotment mentioned as a means of access. A resolution embodying these remarks was moved and adopted.—Mr. Johnson also applied for a portion of the hill sloping from Bowen-street to his property, and asked that he might be allowed to fence it and hold it for a limited time, in order to plant it with trees. The ground was useless except for the purpose suggested. It was resolved, " That the permission applied for be granted, subject to the space of ground required, and the trees to be planted being approved of by the Works Committee." Accounts.—'l he usual monthly accounts were passed, and it was agreed that tlie bill of Messrs. Lusk and Beale be taxed as between attorney and client. Leases. —Leases to the following persons were approved, and the deeds ordered to be executed :—Tames McClellan, J. C. Sharland, John Goodall, A. IJormvel], J. .Kills, J. Martin, M. Montague, W. Oliver, J. Chamber, J. Barnett, and \V. Crowther. Sale of Allotments, &c.—lt was agreed that a month's notice be given of the intention to put up by auction the remaining allotments, and also that Messrs. Grant and Morton be instructed to make the necessary preparations for the sale.—Mr Brinsden (the acting secretary) stated that two houses in the reserve were now empty; the one had been occupied by a constable, and the other by immigrants. Both buildings were ordered to be sold without delay.—Leave o£ absence was granted to the secretary, Mr. Stevenson, until Monday next, who was suffering from ill-liealth. The meeting was then adjourned for a fortnight.
