FATAL ACCIDENT AT THE SANDSPIT.
The cntter Iris arrived yesterday morning from the Sandspit, bringing intelligence of •another [sacrifice o£ human life 'which oc•curred on Thursday morning, also the body I, -of the deceased. It appears that the de- - ceased was a mill hand and bushman working at Mr. Cashmore's sawmills at the Sand- ' spit.' At the time of the occurrence the .men were engaged in driving a number of - logs down the creek to the mill. Michael Mcßusche (the deceased), was standing on ■one of the logs at the side of the creek and : levering off another, when both logs started -down the creek. The water descended with. " considerable velocity, and the deceased was washed off the log and carried down the stream amidst . the logs. John Dodgeon, another of the mill hands, witnessed the oc-| ■ currence, but could render no, assistance as : " the deceased was carried away, and seen no -more until the body was recovered rby Mr. Casliraore and others about'.two fjnile3 lower down the creek, where' it had become jammed with the logs. Lite was, of course, extinct, the body -being very much bruised. from contact with the rocks in :the creek and the driven ■• logs. Mr. Cashmore at once had the body 1 placed on board the cutter Iris and brought to town. On'arrival yesterday morning it was conveyed to..the dead-house in Bay. An inquest will be held at the . .Freeman's Bay Hotel this afternoon. The ••'deceasedwas about 36 years of age, and had ■ been in the colony nearly twenty years.. He has been in Mr. Cashmore's employ for some time.
