N"rw Zealand Herald Office, "Wednesday evening. The Customs duties collected to-day amounted to £623 63 lid. Messrs B. Tanks and Co. sold to-day the 4-roomed house in Elliott-street for the sum of £65. Tho handsome iron gates at tho General Post Office realised £10. Also a quantity of damaged wheat, at 2% fld per bushel; a quantity of wheatmeal, for fowl feed, 4s. Nelson fre3h and salt butter, at 8d per lb. Mr R. Arthur held a clearing-out sale of divers goods to-day, which realised f«iir prices. Sydney.—The Ecrahl of the 12th inst. reports:— This Is what is known in business circles as one of tho slack days. The demand for flour was active, and unless immediate supplies come from Adelaide, it is expected that a farther advance will have to be reported in a few days. Slates have increased in value, and there is also an upward movement in cement, owing to the short shipments advised by mail. The non-arrival of several shipments of new brew ale expected per St. Osyth, leaves the market still baro of that article, and enhances the value of the small quantity in second hands. Afc auction, this morning, Messrs. Bradley, Newton, and Lamb disposed of a quantity of Honolulu and colonial ration sugars at from £21 10s. to £29 ss. Melbourne.—Tho Argus of the Bth inst. saysln the import markets a moderate business only|has been done; the demand for mechandise has been of very little account, and no transactions of any special interest have come before us. In breadstuff's, llour is moving off very readily, tho supply of new being scarcely sufficient for requirements. Bales are maVing at £13 5s to £13 7s Cd, but only trade parcels are disposed of. Wheat is also coming forward rather slowly, but steadily enough, and sales are making very readily at 5s 9d toSslOd for prime "Northern, according to terras. A few hundred bags havo been disposed of today at our quotations. Oats are very quiet indeed, and few sales can be reported. A small parcel of Tasmanian feeding was placed at 3s 4d; quotations range from 3s 3d to 3s 6d. Maize 'is much firmer again. Considerable sales were mado at 5s 2£d, after which holders refnsed to name a price, in consequence of the receipt of telegrams from Sydney advising a further rise in that market. Sugars are in good request. We learn that the balance of tho Viscount Macduff's cargo, amounting to 2000 bags various qualities, has been taken up at full rates. A few hundred bags of . fine whites have also been disposed of at £35. I We observe that the cargo of the Gerfalcon, just arrived from Mauritius, will be sold on Monday nest. Teas are still attracting large amount of attention, and we hear of very considerable parcels ex Georgians having been further taken up. The sales of timber comprise red deals ex Swallow; likewise red flooring, white flooring, and white pine shelving, or various ships. A shipment of 100 barrels Red Beach plaster has been disposed of by auction at 18s. Adelaide, January 11. —Wheat is in fair demand, shipping lots sold at 4s. 7id ; dealers aro offering for farmers* lots Id. less ; sellers ask for new country flour £10 ss.
