CERTAIN SPECIFIC FOR DYSENTERY.

To the Editor of the Herald. Sir, —About dysentery. The following is golden:—Half a pound of logwood, half a gallon of water j boil and keep them on the boil till half the liquid has or gone up the chimney in the shape and with the name of steam. When the quart of liquor remaining is nearly cold, strain it-— through muslin if you like, only strain it. Then sweeten it moderately, and drink it at intervals by quarter pints. The first dose will in a bad case pass through the system instanter. r Good. The second drink will, as a tonic, remain on the stomach, and there perform the operation of a stringent windfas or screw. The next lots of the liquor will most likely make the dying man shout for beefsteak and onions, or eggs and bread ; and in the course of a fortnight ensuing the quondam dying rascal, lately lifted to the commode three times per hour by two assiduous attendants, will probably be promenading, prancing, and prating at the rate of nineteen to the dozen, and possibly, if not probably, gasconading and cavilling with his attentive, careful wife. A few years ago the prescription as above, X was told, did actually lick quite hollow two attending doctors, who had iinally relinquished their patient, a brave tent-victim from Cameron's 11 front." This, now, observe, is* not "how not to do it," of which we have heard much, but precisely the reverse. And, you know, some do say that what little while we are in this very particular world we should do our very utmost "to do good."—l am, &c., W.E.S. ParneJl.
