WAIUKXI. The usual monthly parade of the No. 2 Company Waiuku Rifle Volunteers took place at the parade ground, Waipij}i, this morning, at 10 o'clock. There was a fair muster, under the command" of Captain Alexander, assisted by Lieutenants Douglas and Coulthard. The men were drilled in the Snider exercise by Sergeant-Major Mowbray, and also company drill. At 2 o'clock p.m. the No. 1 company assembled for monthly inspection. There was a good muster, under the command of Lieutenants Hennessy and King. The manoeuvres gone through wero similar to those of the No. 2 Company. Major Lusk was the inspecting officer on . both occasions, and expressed his satisfaction at the appearance of the corps.—[Own correspondent, Jan. 9th.] HtJNTJA. The Rev. T. Norrie has commenced his promised monthly service h ; 3re, and preached in the new church at 7 p.m. on Sunday last. The evening was very favourable, and the attendance was very good. Mr. Norrie arrived in good time, although he had preached that day at Drury, Papakura, and Wairoa, and had come from the latter place by our "Sky-high," and, as it 3 name mayindicate, very rough road ; but even it is nowimproved by tbe good weather. The lessons taught by the passing of time formed the theme of the preacher's discourse, and a touching reference was made to the sudden removal from the midst of us by drowning of our late settler, Corrie Palmer, who was present in the church on the opening day a few weeks ago; and whose remains were the first to find a resting place in the now cemetery adjoining. The singing sounded very sweetly amid the silence of the calm evening and the solitudes of our forest-clad hills. We are delighted with the prospect of having regularly divine services, and anxiously expecting the proclamation of the Hunua Educational District, so that we may be in the way to get a teacher for our children.—[Correspondent, 11th Jan.]
