CITY HALL.
A varied and pleasing entertainment was given last night by Mr. Davies and the members of his troupe. Mr. audMrs Empson gave an excellent musical parlour entertainment, the pianoforte accompaniment being played by Miss Davies. Mr. Davies was, as usual, very successful in displaying his extraordinary powers of ventriloquism. The Du Yills Brothers gave a good gymnastic performance, the "Leap for Life" was a very daring and graceful act. Air. Whiteleigh, better known as Natator, the ManFish, appeared for the second time in Auckland, and set at rest the doubts of the audience as to the possibility of eating, drinking, and even smoking under the water. Of the genuineness of the performance there can be no doubt. The tank was carefully examined, and it was found to be three parts full of water. Natator vaulted into the tank, threw the water about, caught the goldfish in the water, and then plunged beneath the surface and commenced his performance. He appeared to be quite at home, and very comfortably at home, in the water. Whilst under water he ate some food, drank a part of a bottle of milk, and smoked his pipe. The diving about and under the ohair placed in the tank, was very clever, and was done apparently without any effort. The performer was deservedly applauded as he emerged from the tank. Another entertainment will be given this evening. The programme will be altered, and Natator will perform additional and still more extraordinary feats.
