THE THAMES ELECTION.—PRO TESTS ALL HOUND.
The protest of James Mackay against Sir George Grey has afforded food for all the political quidnuncs in Grahamstown, and the diversity of opinion is amusing if not edifying. The protest is not going to be allowed to go in alone: Mr. Mitchell has given notice that he will protest against Sir Julius, for undefined reasons at present. Mr. Howe's election is to be protested against on the score of his committee holding meetings within a public-housaat Coromandel, and Mr. Mitchell ja to be protested against on the score of holding political meetings within a house licensed to sell intoxicating drinks at Ohinemuri. The effects of these protests would be, if carried ..out, that the election -would prove a donkey race-—the last in to win the prize. The official detilaration of the poll will be made on Tnesffay next by the Returning Officer at Shortland.— [Correspondent.]
