A correspondent at Tairua sends the following :—"Mr. F. Haggar, contractor for the conveyance of the wire tramway material to the Prospector's claim, was bathing on the morning o£ Christ mas Day, at the wharf, in front ofMr. W. B. Jackson's house, Tairua harbour. We are glad to learn that the symptoms have abated much, and that there is a fair hope of recovery.—While at Tairua Dr. Fox w-"3 called in to attend a bushmaa, who had been assaulted byanotherEuropean, and sustained broken ribs. The police are on the look-out for the assailant. A Maori gumdigger was also reported as having broken his thigh."
