THE "MESSIAH."
In accordance ■with a time-honored cnstom of the the Auckland Cboral Society, on the approach of the great Christian festival of the year, they performed Handel's oratorio, "The Messiah," in the Choral Hall, last night. Invitations had been forwarded to the members of the various local and district musical societies to assist on the occasion, a courtesy which was responded to by the Ponsonby, Onehunga, and Thames societies. There were about one hundred and fifty performers in the orchestra, Mr. Brown acting as conductor. The soloists were; Mrs. Mitchell and Madame Moller (treble), Miss J. Maunsell (soprano), Miss A. Maunsoll and Miss Leaf (alto), Mr. E. Harker (tenor), and Messrs. H. Brett and G. Harker (bass). The choruses were rendered with great precision and effect, the instrumental accompaniments being efficiently executed by the band. The hall was crowded to excess, and the performance was in every respect an unqualified success. Owing to pressure upon our space we are unable to give a detailed report of the concert.
