NORTH MANUKAU HEAD.
On Wednesday afternoon this district was visited with one of the heaviest thunderstorms known here for years. The thunder commenced about 3 a.m. with vivid flashes of lightning, accompanied by a torrent of rain which rose the creek bank high in less than half an hour, sweeping before it every moveable object. To give an idea of the vast body of water collected in so short a time, it swept over two hundred thousand feet of timber out of a tributary of the Whatipu into the main creek, which by the fresh were carried to the booms at the mill.—[Correspondent, December 16, 1875.]
