She will ** ready for service in a few days. The Jerque Antipodes is now on her way from Melbourne to Hokianga, for a cargo of timber on Mr G. yr j&inney*s account, for Melbourne. The s.s. Rowena arrived yesterday morning from Tauranga via Mercury Bay, with passengers and cargo. She leaves again on her return trip this aftersoon as usuaL The agent of the New Zealand Shipping Company has received a telegram advising the arrival of the Fernglen in London at a date prior to the 20th November. This vessel sailed hence on 14th August, and has, therefore, made the voyage home in less than 93 days. By reference to our telegraphic shipping ifc will bo seen that the mail steamer Cyphrenes left Wellington at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon fcr Napier and Auckland. She is due here to-morrow night or early Saturday morning, and is announced to leave again with the English and American mails on Sunday next, for Kandavu, either transhipping or proceeding on to Honolulu and San Francisco. A match took place yesterday afternoon between the trial fours of the Auckland Rowing Club. The start was effected a few minutes after five o'clock. The crew of the Wonder consisted of W. Jones (stroke), A. Yates (3), R. E. Isaacs (2), D. Tonks (1); coxswain, A. Tonks. The Manukau Maid was manned &s follows T. Henderson (stroke), R. M. Clarke (3), W. Ratcliffe (2), E.Moss(l); M. Copeland (coxswain). The course was from off the wharf down the harbour and round the whaling brigantine Magellan Cloud; then back, and round the hulk Benjamin Ileape, and returning to the wharf. One of the Messrs Oxley's acted as umpire. The Wonder took the lead shortly after the start, and gradually increased the distance between herself and her opponent, finally coming in a winner by several lengths. A number of persons watched the race from the wharf and other vantage grounds, and considerable interest was taken in the event. _ SUMMARY SHIPPING. The Columbus, —Tbi3 fine barque has a large quantity of wool on board, also kauri gum and cobra. She is being loaded by the New Zealand Shipping Company, and is announced to sail for London on the SSth inst. The Ctty of Auckland.—'The City Is now lying in the stream, waiting for the Columbus's berth alongside the wharf. She ha 3 already some cargo in her, consisting of manganese, and has also a largo quantity of this season's wool engaged, the greater part of which is ready for shipment. Her advertised time of sailing for London is during the first week in February; and there is no doubt her depatture will not be delayed after that date. Several enquiries have been made for passage home by this favourite lioer, and a few berths are already booked. Messrs. Cruickshank and Co. are the agents. The Star of Germany.—This ship is discharging her cargo in first-class order. In a few days she will leave for Newcastle (New South Wales), for which port she has a consignment of railway material From there she will probably proceed to San Francisco. The Ocean Mail.—By the early part of next week this ship will have discharged her London cargo, which is being turned out in excellent condition. Her destination hence is at present uncertain. The Carnatic.—This ship is the next vessel expected from home, having sailed from the Downs on the 30th September last. She is consequently 78 days out, and may be looked for shortly. We have advices also of the following vessels on the berth at London for this port; Glenlora, to sail October 10th; Benvenue, to sail october 25th; Warwick, to sail October 30th; Fernglen and Waipa, to sail in November. Telegraphic adviccs have been received of the sailing of the Brodick Castle, but the date is not stated. The ship Ardvar is also expected from Glasgow.

B T TELEGRAPH. RUSSELL. December 16.—The a.s. lona was detained yesterday by fog; she left at G. 30 a.m. to-day for the North. Arrived : This morning, the Gipsy, cutter. Sailed : The Golden Isle and Alajjic, for Auckland, freighted with manganese for Sydney ; the Christina, for Napier; and James, on a whaling cruise. NAPIER. December 10.—The A.S.P. Co .'a s.s. Southern Cross arrived at the Spit at 3 p.m. to-day, from Auckland. "WELLINGTON. December 16.—Sailed at 4 p.m., R.M. s.s.
