NORTHERN WAIROA.
j Xhe electors of Marsden cannot complain of a lack of candidates to choose from— Mr. Munro, Sir, Robert Douglas, Bart., Messrs. F. H.Hull, and Seyburn, and last, though not .least, P: 1 , Bradley, Es<k, the man of the' Nbrthy 'is hovr canvassing the'' East Coast. As tkje majority of Toters reside on the Northern Wairoa, at whoße unanimous request lie has coneenUd to declare himself
a candidate for representation, I have not the slightest doubt as to the issue. He is a local man, thoroughly identified with the wants and the neglect of the North. He goe3 in unpledged, except as to the advocacy, of roads, and the extension of the Kaipara railway to Auckland, : abolition of Provincialism, no Insular Separation, but a consolidated colony of New Zealand, under which and on which the colonial loans are secured, and for any measures for the general welfare of the colony.' With these' general views, and his own conscience to guide him, the electors have trusted him to contest the election against all comers. Notwithstanding the croakings of non-pro-gressionists, the Kaipara railway so far is a success. Instead of not having five tons of produce to send from the whole of the North, ninety tons are now lying at Helensville waiting transport to Riverhead through insufficiency of rolling stock. As regards gum, producers and local agents are fully up to the mauipulation of prices given for quotation to the Press. On the last trip of the Lily, a telegram was put on board at Helensville, informing local country agents that gum was down £5, or 25 dollars of Mr. Shipley's currency. No American, Austrrlian, or European mail had arrived at any New Zealand port for a week previous, when the prices were quoted at 3Ss ard 39s per cwt. The fact is the barque Thames was about completing loading for New York. We have monthly advices from America and England about gum, and will not fail to keep the gum-diggers well posted up.—[Correspondent, December 15.] | -1 , I
