THE GOLDFIELDS.

[from our own correspondent.] Thames, Saturday. City of London.—The crushing at Bull's battery, Karaka Creek, has returned another favourable yield upon the quantity milled, 270 loads, obtained from the No. 1 and No. 3 reefs, third level, and from crosslode, the return being 597 ounces gold. _ Eagle.—The shareholders in this claim, | situate on the Tararu Road, and adjoining the Kuranui Company's ground, have had a trial lot of one ton put through at the Prince Alfred battery, for the return of 5J dwts. of gold. | South Stafford.—Mr. Themas realised | from a crushing at his mill, Hape Creek, , 20 ozs. gold. ! Moanatairi.—The usualfortnight's crush- \ ing at the company's mill is satisfactory, and proves that No. 2 lode now being worked is remunerative, and a continued improvement may be looked for. There have been 650 tons crushed from all sources, resulting in the yield of 345 ozs. gold. Inverness.—The upper section of this company's ground, as held under tribute by Catran and party, has resumed crushing at the Prince Alfred battery, where 60 tons have been put through the stamper-box for the satisfactory yield of SI ozs. 3 dwts. melted gold. Nonpareil.—A few pounds of sp ? T nens obtained from the leader on the adit level have been treated, realising 4J ozs. gold, operations in this mine are now temporarily suspended, until the directors are enabled to raise funds for the purpose of opening out and crushing the reef to hand in the bottom level. The block of ground available should be a good one, and, judging from the character of the lode by former workings in upper blocks, would well repay shareholders in paying a calL Cure. —The past month has not been productive of many specimens, or of an unlimited supply for battery requirements— the mill being hung up for want of sufficiently good quartz on several occasions, the lode on the floor of the new level having proved, for the present, not payable, the reef seeming to improve as it ascends. For the tonnage stamped the return, however, is good, amounting to 303 ozs. 4 dwi3. retorted gold. City of York.—A considerable quantity of stuff is ready for trucking to the shaft for hauling to the surface, as soon as the road is at liberty. The reef at present is not large, and the quality has yet to be determined by the battery test. Queen of Beauty.—The week's work at the battery has not been up to expectation, the lode from surface being poor, and the mill has not been constantly woiking. Golden Calf. —In driving onNo. 2reef, the manager (Mr. Dunlop) has been enabled to observe gold in the stone ; and in No. 1 reef the stone has improved greatly, fully 20 lbs. of picked stuff being obtained this day. The reefs are at present about six feet apart, No. 1 being to the north of No. 2. It is evident that one or both of the lodes ar j nearing the shot of gold as obtained formerly by Captuin Hines in the upper levels. GOLD RETURNS. For the Week ending December 4.
