TEE GOLDFIELDS.
[from our own CORRESPONDENT.]
Thames, Saturday. Alburnia.—During the past mouth the various supplies from the old mine have showed up better than of late. The present crushing will be rotorted on Monday, and the yield may be expected to be highly satisfactory. The operations in the low level on the Carpenter's reef, as well as from the Sons of Freedom level, will be in full force next week ; and, judging from appearances as well as extent of country now at command, the Albnrnia property will command a position during the next twelve months superior to that it has hitherto enjoyed. Golden Age.—The tributers, Quarly and party, working the ground formerly known as the Harp of Erin, Waiotahi Creek, have from time to time had small crushings obtained from near the surface, and have succeeded in ferreting out 24 lbs. stone, which has yielded 9 ozs. 4 dwts. gold. The crushing was performed at the Tramway mill. • Windsor Castle. —The portion worked on tribute by Storar and party has enabled a crushing of 7i tons of stone to be treated at the Moanatairi battery, from which the' satisfactory return of 17 ozs. gold has been retorted.
Manckac—The trial crushing of 5. tons.' quartz from the drive on No. 6 reef, continuation of Cure lode south-westerly, has resulted in its not being payable. Queen of Beauty.—Crushing at the company's battery for the last week yielded very indifferently ; this present week it has greatly improved, making the total fortnight's return respectable. This is owing to the manager, Mr. C. Wilson, opening up a new block from No. 3 level of a considerable size, easily worked, and yielding well at the battery. The 20-stampers' work have realised 401 ozs. 15 dwts.
South Devon. —A parcel of 12 tons, crushed at the Bedford battery, Hape Creek, for the tribute No. 1 in the above claim, resulted only in 3 ozs. 15 dwts. melted gold. Hazlebank. —Livingstone and party, tributers, have completed a crushing of 24 tons at the Prince Alfred mill; but the quality of the stone, "owing to its being taken from the vicinity of a slide, was not expected to yield much, and operations in that part of tho mine will be discontinued. The reef has been driven on for 15 feet into the slide, but not found. Driving is now going on to . catch the reef in another direction. It has evidently been thrown out of its course, and doubtless will be picked up shortly. Moanatairi.—The Moanatairi battery for the last week has only been partially employed, owing to completion of sundry improvements in connection with the engine, and the addition of a super-heater apparatus for supplying boilers with hot water in lieu of cold. The mill is now employed with five head for the Long Drive, and five for the Red White and Blue, and 25 on company's stuff; the remaining five head for any comer.
Golden Arrow (Tairoa). —A correspondent writes :—Mr. Bates, manager, bagged up three tons of stuff to be .forwarded to the Tairua battery, which is expected to turn out satisfactory. From what t see it will not go far from 3 ouncesGreat credit is due to Mr. Bates for develop, ing this rich discovery. The directors are not so pleased with him for resigning.
