The Last Chance (Heale and party) obtained 12 ozs. 8 dwts. of gold from 9 tons. The Golden Age (Beehive tribute, worked by Burn and party) retorted 11 ozs. 12 dwts. of gold from 10 tons. The Dauntless and Sink-to-Rise (Sawyer's tribute) crushed 30 tons of stone for 91 ozs. of gold. Little Lizzie obtained 35 ozs. 10 dwts. of gold from SO lbs. of specimens. At the Golden Calf the repairs to the shaft are completed and operations in the mine resumed. At the Cure there is a fair show of gold in all the workings. Prospect of a good yield at tho battery. In the Supreme to-day David Pickley was found guilty of burglary; Scott of stealing from the billiard-marker of the Pier Hotel; Moffitt for horse stealing; Thomas Roche for false pretences (in this case Bentence was deferred). A true bill for perjury was returned against Eliza Scott, the woman upon whose evidence the man Cameron was, at the last assizes, convicted of rape and sentenced to 10 years, with two floggings. The Grand Jury threw out the bill against W. H. Campbell, for obtaining money under false pretences from the N. Z. Shipping Company. Mr. McKerdy, of Wellington, "was the successful tenderer for the incline contract of the Wellington and Masterton Railway. The tender is a trifle under £50,000. Christchurch, "Monday. The criminal session of the Supreme Court opened this morning. There were thirteen prisoners and twenty cases, including sheep-stealing, larceny, forgery, larceny of letters from the Post-office, and embezzlement. In the Supreme Court, George Fleet, for horse stealing, was sentenced to six years' imprisonment; and A. Cormack, for forgery, to six months' imprisonment.

The Timaru Herald's special correspondent, writing from London on the 6th August, says that both Sir Julius Vogel'and Dr. Eeatherston were abroad recruiting their health, and that .the agency was in the sole charge of Mr. Walter Kennaway. The weather on Sunday was bitterly cold, a heavy fall of snow lying thickly on the hills. The criminal sessions opened to-day, before Judge Williams. His Honor, in his charge to the Grand Jury, complimented them on the lightness of the calendar. He concluded by referring to the uncomfortable state of the Court-house, which he said was a disgrace to the first city in the colony. He said that it was not unreasonable to expect the structure consecrated to the administration of justice should be weather-proof, decent, and. commodious. The jury found true bills against all the prisoners. Annie Hardy pleaded guilty of stealing. Sentence deferred. McCarthy, for assault with a knife, was acquitted. Thomas White was found guilty of burglary. There were sixteen previous convictions against the Sentence deferred. Dobson, for robbery" was sentenced to six months' imprisonment.*
