The cutters Leo and South Carolina arrived yesterday from Ru=sell, with cargoes of coal. The cutter Magic arrived last night from Tairna, with a cargo of timber. The A.S.P. Co.'s s.s. Pretty Jane took her departure yesUidav afternoon for Gisborne and Napier, with a fnll general cargo and several passengers. The A.S P. Co.'n s.s. Go-Ahead arrived at Wauganul yesterday morning, and was to leave again last evening for Onehunga. The s.s. Rowena arrived last evening from Tauranga, with passengers and cargo. She returns tomorrow afternoon.

The successful tenderers for provedoring the A.S.P. Co.'s fleet of steamers during the next six months aro Messrs. Canham and Welby. Tenders will be received until noon to-day by Messrs. Ovn and Graham to discharge the ship Lutterworth. The Coronet having completed her alterations, xaakin? her a fore-and-aft schooner, she will leave for Tahiti to day. The schooner A dvance, Captain Kennedy, arrived at an early hour this morning, with a cargo of cattle and produco from East Coast ports. The ship Lutterworth, hiving discharged h-r powder, came up h»rbour yesterday, and will b« berthed alongside the wharf as soon as possible. A aight entry to clear tlie ship at the Customs will be passed t"-morrow morning. The New Zealand Steam Shipping Company! s.s. Phoebe. Captain Wnrsp. will leave Onehunga wharf at 7 o'clock this morning, and the Bluff anchorage at 3 p.m. for Southern ports. The steamer Tarn o Shantcr vi'l envey passengers on board after the arrival of tho 1 50 train from town. The brig Syren, which stranded on tho Tairua bar. has been got safely off, and towed into the river. She ai pears to have been strained, and several of her butts have started. hesMe other damage to her copper. Bower came to town yesterday by the Rowena, to report the affair to the owners and to make arrangements to repair the vessel.

German flagstaff, E. by N., two-thirds of a mile, in 5J fathoms water; at 2 p in. on the sth, sailed for the island of Eoa, and anchored there on the 7th: stlled again on the Bth, for Tnngatabu, and arrived there on the oth, at 0 a.m. Vessels at Tongatabu when leaving: Barque Reconnaissance, schooner Peerless, German barque Hansa. On the morning of the 12th July sailed for Auckland, with Hjhtsoutherly airs:on the 13th, very strong trades from S.S.K., with high confused swell; double-reefed. At noon on the 13th passed the Island Pylstaart, and passed to the nerthward of the Minerva Reef, the wind being strong from the S S.E., attended with a strong current setting to tho westward; on the I7th the wind hauled more to thoeaitward; on the ISth, In lat. 2S deg. 9 min. 8., long. 177 deg. 27 min. E., lost the trade winds. Light airs from N.N.E., and showery weather, with calms at times. On the 10th, fresh northerly winds until noon of the 20th, when in lat 33 deg., long. 170 deg. 18 min. K, wind chopped into the 8.W., with rain On tho 21st and 22nd encountered a heavy gale from the S. \Y\, with violent rain squalls and high sea; close reefed and reached to windward. From that date unt'l the 25th, light airs and calms from S.S.W. to S.W. On the 2flth a light breeze sprung up from the N.W. Made tho land at 9 a m., bearing S.W. by S, about 15 milei. Noon: Strong gales and thick, rainy weather, and heavy sea, attended with violent squalls: closed reefed. At 1 p.m. a terrific squall struck the vessel.and split the staysail; took in mainsail and hovo-to with head to westward. At daylight more settled wind, W. by S.E : clear w.mther. Stood to the S.S.W., and madem >re sail. Atnoon on the27tb, Needles Point, Great Harrier, S.W. by 8., 15 miles.; light southerly and S.W. winds: on the 28th,calmand cloudv first part, latter part easterly winds, and clear. At IL3O a.m. anchored in Auciland harbour. The vessel has ben detained on the coast since the 20th July by adverse winds, cilms, and gales. She brings a cargo of Island produce, consigned to Owen and Graham.
