HIGHWAY BOARD MEETINGS.

POINT CHEVALIER. The annual meeting of ratepayers of this district was held on Tuesday evening, at the Northern Hotel, Great North Road. The report and balance-sheet wero unanimously adopted. It was then proposed by Mr. Edgeombe, and seconded by Captain Seymour, " That the rate be Id. in the £ on tho value to sell, , ' which was adopted. Messrs. Dignau, Seymour, Smith, James, and Woodward were elected trustees. The auditors appointed were Messrs. Moore and Hoffmau. Messrs. Young and Walker were appointed fence-viewers. PAPARATA. The annual meeting of the abovo highway district was held in the Bombay school, on tho 17th instaut, and as is utmal with all meetings held in the distriet, there was a g xkl muster. Mr. Thomas Jones was voted 11 the chair. The advertisement calling the meeting having been read, the chairman read tie accounts for the past year, shewing how e rery penny was expended. Tho receipts, it.eluding a balance on hand from the previous year of £1 Os. 10-id., amounted to £113 Hs. lUd.; expenditure, £112 15s. 7d.,leaTing a balance in hand of IDs. 4jtd. It was proposed by Mr. Jessop and seconded by Mr. Anderton, "That the report be adopted." Carried unanimously. It was proposed by Mr. Mackenzie and seconded by Mr. Jessop, •'That all the land in the district be valued .it £2 per acre, ami that the rate be Id. in the £ on the value to sell for rating purposes." Proposed, as an amendment by Mr. Joseph liudd, and seconded by Mr. Manning, "That the district be divided into three classes for rating purposes." The amendment having been put to the meeting, met with little support, whilst the original motion was carried almost unanimously. The following gentlemen were then nominated as trustees for tho current year, with the following result:— Messrs. Wilson, 02 votes ; Robinson, 52; Sturgeon, 49 ; Mackenzie, 44 ; Mayo, 30 ; Manning, 31 ; Perry, 2S ; Milburne, 20 ; Day, 24 ; Mcatyard, 20 ; Waugh, 15. The live highest were declared duly elected. Mr. Sturgeon was dgain elected chairman of the board, and Mr. Mackenzie treasurer; both of these gentlemen, as well as Mr. Robinson were members of the retiring board. Messrs. Carter and Klder were elected to the agreeable duty of fence-viewers, and Messrs. Stratford, J.P., and Sheffield auditors. The meeting having passed off very satisfactorily, a vote of thanks to the chairman for the impartial and lirm manner in which he performed his duty, brought tho meeting to a close. CAMBRIDGE. On Saturday evening, at the National Hotel, Cambridge, tho annual meeting of the Cambridge district was held. The chair was occupied by Mr. James Buchanan. Mr. W. Selby read the report and balance-sheet for the past year. A rate ot Jj in the Con the value to sell was agreed to, and Messrs. J. 11. Smith, Janie.s Kuuciman, W. L. Martyn, W. Morgan, and K. 1). Small were unanimously elected trustees. Messrs. John Martyn jun., and J. C. Reynolds, were re-elected auditors. At a meeting of the newly-elected trustees, subsequently held, Mr. J. H. Smith wai electeJ chairman. WHANGAI'AIIAOA. The annual meeting for the election of trustees took place on Saturday, the 17th inst., at 2 o'clock p.m. Mr. Moffat was unanimously voted to preside. Tho statements of receipts and expenditure for the year ending 30th June, was then read and adopted, which shews the total receipts to have been £5912e 3d, viz. : —Rates collected, £14 12s 3d ; Provincial Government grant in aid of ferries, i'4s. Kxpunditure: Bridges and culverts, £3 10s; -ferries, £43 lye ; printing, advertising, collecting, &c, £1 8s 2d. The balance of cash in hand was deposited ill the bank to the credit of the new trustees. Amount of arrears for past year, £13 Us sd. The rate for ensuing year was lixed t'le same as List year, viz., Jd in £ on value to sell. Tho meeting then elected tho following as trustees :—Messrs. Marshall, C. Dacrc, 1,. S. D.icre, Moffat, and Marsh. Messrs. 1-iwton and Manning were appointed auditors. A vote of thanks was then passed to the outgoing trustees, which was courteously acknowledged by Mr. Manning. —[Correspondent. ]
