ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY
Tiif. usual monthly meeting of the Acclimatisation Society was held yesterday afternoon, in the Museum Buildings, Prinees-street. Present, —Dr. Campbell (in the chair), Messrs. Ifurst, Hurt, and F. Whitaker. Minutes.—Tlio minutes of the last monthly meeting were read anil confirmed. Balance-sheet.—The monthly balancesheet was submitted. The receipt* were £146 4s Cd; expenditure, £23'J 14a 3d; balance in bank, £204 16s. CoiiKESi'OXUKsrK.—Letter read from Cross and Co., of -"-an Francisco, enclosing statement of accounts. — Letter read from 1 lev. Mr. Hard, Colonial Secretary of Western Australia, relative to exchanges with that colony. Consideration deferred until next meeting.—-Letter read from llis Honor the Superintendent, notifying the appointment of rangers for the W'aikato.—Letter read from the curator, detailing the damage done in the gardens by the previous night's storm. Seeds.—A shipment of acorns received by the Duuediu was examined, and found to bo apparently totally destroyed by damp. It was considered advisable to order a fresh supply from Kngland. Pahtiudues.—The Secretary stated that 45 partridges had been received by the Dunedin, three of which had since died. 90 birds had been shipped at London, but 45 had died on the voyage, the greater portion of which were lions.—The secretary was requested to communicate with the Christchurch Society, in order to endeavour to procure thy exchange of a number of male birds for females. It was also resolved that eight pair of partridges should bo liberated at Lake Takapuna, Mr. Hurst promising to look after thein. Accounts. —Accounts amounting to £40 8s were ordered to be paid. This concluded the business.
