TE ARAI.
RATEPAYEKs' ' ° MEASLEH. MEAT AJTD TEXPLARS. A MEpiKO of ratepayers of . wUI b e held on July 15th; for the purpose™ electing the officers of the new Hi«hwav Board, auditing last year's accounts' and i n S a rn, te > also to consider the advisability of joining Te Arai with North Albertlend. Several settlers have for years most anxiously desired that they should be one a rm ta k' n s cons i ( leratioii the smallness of Te Aral, and that the main road to the Beach is used more by Albertland settlers than any others, it certainly does seem most desirable. The meeting of .North Albertland ratepayera-takes place on July 20th, for electing highway trustees, fixing a rate ; and then thennion of the district ■will.* be discussed. I understand that the Good Templars are highly incensed at the idea of our vignerons wanting to distill spirits in the district; they view the attempte-1 innovation with dismay. Their opinion is that it will increase drunkenness, and demoralize this and surrounding districts, and they are determined to oppose the introduction of private stills into the district with all their available influence. It is to be seen who will come off victors. M&wles have pretty well left the district. The vaccination of infants has again boon put off on account of the vaccine forwarded from Wellington Being valueless. This winter stock luive up to the present time beep remarkably healthy, especially sheep. Te Arai is well supplied with firstclass mutton and beef. Pheasants are also very plentiful. I have heard of no sportsmen making very full bags this season. I suppose they are waiting for me to shew them how. - [Own Correspondent. J
