BOARD OF EDUCATION.

Tun ordinary meeting of tho Board of Education was held yesterday afternoon in the ollke of the Board, Wyndham Chambers. The following members were present:—F. L. Prime, Esq., Mayor (in the chair), and Messrs. Joseph May, H. H. Lusk, W. T Ball, K. G. Wood, and Dr. Campbell.—Tho uiiuutes of the lust meeting were read and continued. The correspondence received by the Secretary since last meeting was read, and the various applications and other business was dealt with as follows :— Kawakawa.—The Board approved of the appointment of Miss Lorrigan as pnpil teacher, at a salary of £20, for the above district school. O.sKur.NuA. —The Board approved theappointnient of Miss Young, as teacher, at a salary of £20. I'akiki.— Letter received, asking to be proclaimed a separate district from Omaha. —The secretary was requested to ask that further information should be sent through the Omaha committeo, for their report thereon. Mount Roskilu—A letter from this district, asking to be proclaimed a separate school district, was deferred. Fkasep.town.—The Board approved of the appointment of Mr. J. P. Taylor as teacher. W.urr (Upper).—Decision upoua request for the appointment of a teacher of needlework was deferred until after the Inspector's visitWaipi; Cove.— The Board authorised the continuance of the same salary to tho teacher for the present. Waiufu-.—Asking the Board to build teacher's house at \Vaipipi, or to allow 5s per week as rent. The Secretary was requested to ascertain how much the district would contribute towards the cost of a teacher's house. Kauwaekamja.—Asking an allowance of 30s each to three pupil teachers temporarily employed. —Granted. \\\ui:oa South. —The Board authorised the increase of teacher's salary to £45 from date of appointment. T'VAKAf.—Tho Board sanctioned the appointment of James Burns as pupil teacher, at £25 a-year. Okaihau.—Tho Secretary was requested to inform the school commissioners of Okaihau that the Board approved of their decision with reference to the teacher, provided clause 21 of the Act has been complied with. Mr. James McMullen was appointed as an additional commissioner. Piuoi. —The Board approved of the appointment of Mrs. Carroll as teacher of needlework, vice Mrs. Scholium, resigned. Herd's Point.—A letter was received, asking for aid to the school established by the settlers. —The Board granted £40 per year towards a teacher's salary, and Messrs. Von Stunner aud Webster were appointed commissioners till the next election of a committee. Omaha.—The Board approved the appointment of Mr. Pooley as teacher from the 11th May. -Nuariawahia. —The Board authorised the payment of £3 for stove. Hamilton.—'J he Board authorised the payment of Mr. Kerr according to the average attendance, when he handed over the school to his successor. Waiuku.—The Board approved tho appointment of Mr. \V. W. Taylor as teacher at Waiuku, and Mr. Edward Stevens at Waipipi. Waiotajii.—The Board agreed to bring under the notice of his Honor the Superintendent the propriety of taking steps to set apart endowments for the purposo of establishing a high school in the district of Hauraki. It was also agreed that tho Thames school should bo made a superior school upon the same conditions as the Kauwacranga school. Wanuarej.—The Board did not consider it advisable to re-open the school at Wangarei for the present. Tararu.—The Board approved of the appointment of Miss Clark as pupil teacher, at a salary of £25. Wade.—The Board approved the appointMr. Purdon, vice Mr. Morten, resigned. Te Kovuru. —A letter was received from this district, asking for a full-time school at Aratapu. The secretary was requested to enquire if the building was ready and the fittings complete. Gisbornk.—The Board sanctioned the proposal of the commissioners to disposo of the school.houao and erect another one on tho Education reserve, near the church. KmiKim.—The secretary was requested to point out to the committee at Kihikihi that in electing nine membors they had acted illegally, and request the chairman to call a meeting of the householders to nominate five gentlemen to he appointed by the Board as Commissioners. Piako.—Application for proclamation of this district was deferred to next meeting. Wark worth. —The Board granted £5 to repair teacher's house, in lieu of rent to the owners. Kawakawa. —An application was received for rent for school-room.—The Board declined to make any grant for the purpose. Camduidue.—Tho Board authorised the appointment of a junior assistant teacher, and granted £10 for school fittings. I'akaiiu.—The Board decided that it could not increase tho grant to this district in the present condition of the funds, and the secretary was requested to ascertain what was the title to the ground upon which it is proposed to build. Mang.U'aj.—The Board granted £5 for rep.-ara in lieu of rent, to cover all claims for this purpose to 30th June, 1875. Oi'otiki.— The Board granted £20 to supplement the £35 raised in the district, on condition that it was Appropriated to lining the building.

Building Committee.—The Rcserraa Committee was appointed as & Building Committee, to ascertain whit sites aro available for school buildings in the city and suburbs, and the probablo cost of the buildings required for schools in town and country. Devonpokt.—The Board approved of the appointment of Mr. T. H. Smith as teacher, vice Mr, Guertz, resigned. Matakana. —The correspondence between Dr. Cruickshank and the School Corumitteo was laid beforethe Board.—lts consideration was deferred. Exchange Hotel.—lt was resolved that the Exchange Hotel, Parnell, should be leased for seven years, upon the usual conditions, and the matter was referred to the Reserves Committee, with power to act. Correspondence.—An application from Mr. A. Hood for permission to build three, instead of two, houses on the ground leased by him on the New North Road.—This matter was referred to the Reserves Committee.
