WESLEYAN CONFERENCE.

Thursday, January 28. MORNING SESSION 1 . The Conference re-assembled at 10 o'clock, and was opened with the singing of hymn 429, after which the Secretary read the 145 th Paslm, and the Rev. Messrs. Gittos and Oliver offered prayer. The SKCRETABy read the record of the previous day's proceedings. The members of the various connexional committees were appointed. The Secretary read the report of the subcommittee appointed to consider the expenses chargeable ■ upon the Church contingent fund. The Rev. Air. Richardson moved, "That the expenses attending the General Conference be allotted in an equitable proportion to the several annual Conferences. The Rev. Mr. Fitchett remarked that the Conferences of Victoria and New South Wales, within whose boundaries the General Conferences were to be held, would obviously enjoy great advantages over New Zealand and South Australia. The Rev. Mr. Taylor seconded the motion, which was carried. The Rev. Mr. Morrey moved, " That the expenses of the committee on lay representation, which the Rev. Mr. Symons propossd to divide equally between the four Conferences, bo charged to such Conferences in proportion to the number of their members, and that the share of this Conference be fixed at £9. —Seconded by the Rev. Mr. Fitchett, and carried. The Conference adopted various recommendations with reference to sale of connection properties. The Ex-President moved, "That the resolution to sell the Newark station bo rescinded."—Seconded by the Rev. Mr. Hones, and carried. The Secretary read the report of the Book Committee. The Rev. Mr. Fitchett moved the appointment of the members of the Book Committee of Christchurch. The Secretary read the resolution of the Conference respecting missions. The Rev. Mr. Fitchett moved, " That tho visit of a missionary deputation to the Southern districts be postponed for a year." The Secretary then read the estimate J expenditure of tho Home Mission Fund for the previous year, which shewed a total of £2059 4s 3d. Tho estimated income of this fund i» £2010 10s Od. - The Conference adjourned at one o'clock. AKTKItNOON' SITTING. The 373 rd hymn was sung, and tho exPresident offered prayer. On tho motion of the Rev. Mr. Bavin, seconded by the Ex-President, the Stationsheet was re-opened, and the following alterations rnado :— Kalapoi: William 11. Beck. Timaru: William C. Oliver, George liocd. Lawreuce anH Roxburgh: Thomas Q. Carr. On the motion of the Rev. Mr. La wry, a n.:v edition of the Maori Hymn Book was aut. orised. Ihe Rev. Mr. Kirk read a.minute of the Taranaki aud Wanganui. district meeting with reference to the revision of the Wesleyan Hymn Book.—Tho Rev. Mr. Bavin moved, "That a revision of our present Hymn-book is highly desirable, but that tho . several annual Conferences should have tho opportunity of expressing their opinion upon any such revised Hymn Book that may be issued before it be generally adopted by the Conference."—The general feeling of the Conference was favourable to the proposal, but in eonsequebee of "the" final decision of the Revision Committee at home, it was deemed unnecessary to take action in the matter.—Tho' motion was accordingly withdrawn. The. Ex-Prbsu>ent moved the adoption of the following recommendation of the Nelson district meeting;—" That the system that has grown up in some of our circuits of avoiding our rule that regulates the mode of giving invitations to ministers, by opening correspondence before tho prescribed time, is hichly objectionable ; and this meeting recommends that no invitation shall be regarded by tlie Stationing Committee given before tho September quarterly meeting, nor any invitation sent to ministers who have been only one or two years in their circuits, and whom their circuits with to retain." Tho Rev. Mr. Bavin moved the adoption of the following recommendation of the Canterbury district meeting : —" That the restriction which prohibits a minister from remaining beyond a period of three years in the same circuit should be removed."— Seconded by the Rev. \V. C. Oliver, and carried unanimously. — This chango is accordingly recommended to the General Conference. The Secretary read a further report of the Committee on Removals. The Uov. Mr. BerrY moved, and the Rev. Mr. Morley seconded, " That wo earnestly request the General Conference to revise the rules of our Society." The Rev. Mr. Kirk read a recommendation of the Taranaki district meeting on the status of communicants.—A lengthy conversation ensued on class meetings and tests of membership. The Ex.President read the draft of an address to his Excellency the Governor. The Rev. Mr. Bavin moved a vote of thanks to the Rev. Mr. Aldred for a liberal donation in aid of the training of candidates for the Ministry. The Rev. Mr. Richardson read the report of the committee of tho Wesleyan Sunuayschool Union. —Recommendations were then received from the several district meetings on the subject. On the motion of tho Rev. Mr. Kiiik, seconded by the Rov. Mr. Bavin, it was resolved that tho next Confereneeshall beheld at Wellington, beginning on Thursday, January 13, 187G, at 6 o'clock p.m.; th# Stationing Committee to meet the samo day at 10 a.in., aud the Connexional Committees on Thursday, January 20. The Rev. Mr. Rioo presented the report of the sub committee appointed to consider the re-arrangement of district meeting business.—The report was adopted. Tho Ex-Phesidf.nt moved a hearty vote of thanks to the families who have entertained the members of tho Conference during the present session.—Seconded by tho Rev. Mr. Schnackknbeko, and carried unanimously. Tho Ex-President moved a vote of thanks to the circuit stewards and ministers of the Auckland circuit for their excellent arrangements for the convenience aud comfort of this Conference.—Seconded by the Rov. Mr. Taylor. Tho Ex-Pkesident and President congratulated the Conference on tho harmony . and freedom of spirit which had characterised the Conference. The Rev. Mr. Berry moved, and the Rev. Mr. Oliver seconded, a vote of thanks to the Rev. J. Wallis for his services as reporter to the daily Pre3s during the latter days of the Conference.—Carried unanimously. Tho Rev. Mr. Tayloii moved, and the Rev. Mr. Riog seconded, a vote of thanks to the secretary and assistant secretary, carried unanimously. Tho Rev. Mr. Smith moved, and the Rev. Mr. Kirk seconded, a vote of thanks to the journal-writer and Conference letterwriter ; also, to tho llev. Mr. Bavin for his services as precentor.—Carried unanimously. Tho Rev. Mr. Bavin moved, and the Rev. Mr. Crump seconded, that the thanks of the Conference be tendered to the editors of the daily papers for their courtesy in inserting reports of the-Conference from day to day.—Carried unanimously. The session i will linally close on Friday morning at 9.30 o'clock.
