Christmas races and sports came off at Mariarohia yesterday (Tuesday), and were, a decided success. From the early part of the day the people began to Tjfcnd thenway to the courso. Several of theTaces were well-contested. There were horse-races and aa.equal number of foot-races. This the last event on the programme, and the people began tc wend their way homeward. The Onehunga Minstrels gave an entertainment in the Commercial Hall- in the evening to a good house, but the affair was rather teme. The Cadets attached to No. 1 Waiuku Rifle Volunteers fired on Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock for district prizes. Only one fair score was made, Cadet George Currie making 07 out of a possible S4, at 100, 200, and 300 yards; seven shots at each range. The committee of the Waiuku Agricultural Association met this evening in the Kentish Hotel, to arrange a programme for the next annual show.
