[FROM- OUR OWN CORRESPONDENTS.] THAMES, Thursday. The Old "Whau have obtained SO or 90 lbs. of very rich specimens again to-day.. The Candlelight tributers crushed 30 tons for IGJ ozs. gold. The Coliban crushed 10 tons for 2il r ozs. gold. The Moanatairi crushing is looking miroh better this week. The .Alburnia started crushing last night. The Cure crushing doe 3 not look so bright. The Otago will retort to-morrow. Sales of Old Whau at 17s 6d ; buyers, 17s Gd. Te Moananui's people have arrived, and the whole of Ohinemuri's natives are now in Short-land, and will meet the natives at Taipari'3 house to-morrow. It is reported that the principal chiefs met privately to-day, and Te Moananui bitterly opposed the opening of the land. Te Hira, it is stated, is in a favourable mood, and remains quiescent. COROMA]SrDEL, Thursday. The Bismarck has another 100 feet of driving let on the leader in the Van level.' There is not much change in the appearance of the lode. The Tokatea have got ISO lbs. of good specimens in hand, all from the Bismarck stopes, for the week. The mine is looking very healthy, and the manager is likely to be on a rich run of gold between now and Christmas. The general stuff at the Wha-kai-oa battery is looking better. There is an additional 20 lbs. of specimens from the new leader, witli every prospect of continuance.
The Harbour View tributers banked with the Bank of Nc w Zealand 17-i ozs. gold, from 17 tons cf general stuff and 12 lbs. specimens. A serious gun accident has taken place at Tiki to a minex named Martin McDonald. A gun exploded whilst being removed from under the house, shooting away all the ilesh to the bone of the right hand and wrist. Portions of the contents also lodged in the thigh. The case is not considered dangerous. The sufferer was removed to the hospital. TAURANGA, Thursday. There was no sign of the transit of Venus here. Captains Crapp and .McPlierson left on Sunday for Katikati, to protect the old claim discovered years ago, and samples of gold from which were forwarded at the time to Mr. Gillies, then Superintendent. Captain Morris, through Hopkins Clarke, i has succeeded in renting lands at the back of Matapihi and Wharero. Recent intelligence from Katikati states that prospecting parties from Ohincmuri are proceeding unmolested to the ranges at the back of Waihi. Mr. David Stuart, of Lycll, agent for the Bank of New Zealand at Marton, was apprehended at Taupo late last night, on a charge of embezzlement. He will be brought before the magistrate on Saturday, aDd remanded to Marton.
