WELLINGTON, • Tuesday. Sir George Arney will leave\We. ll: ut j o n for _ Auckland on the 20th instant. The business before the Court of Appeal is unusually heavy. R. C. Hammerton, Deputy-Registrar of Supreme Court, has been appointed Secretaiy to the Stamp Department, which fills up ths vacancy caused by the retirement of Brandon. Manimerton will occupy a higher position than Brandon did, and will re-model the office altogether. The office of Chief Clerk will not be filled up at present, pending certain changes. There have been five deaths on board the Star of India, three were children, the other two were a man, who, in a fit of insanity, jumped overboard with bis child in his arm?, who were both drowned. Six births occurred on the voyage.

A splendid race resulted down the straight, Rem/nut beating Alio? Gray by half a length, and Yatterina a good third. Time—l min. 49h sac.
