POLICE COURT.—Monday.
[Before Dr. Home and D. M. Luckie, Esq? , Justices.] Drunkenness. —For this offence seven per-
sons were punished. Maria Lysaglit, for habitual drunkenness, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment, with hard labour. City By-laws.—John Oxley, for having allowed the chimney of the house occupied by him, in Abercrombie-street, to take fire on the 13th ultimo, was fined ten shillings and costs.—Thomas Constable, for* a similar offence, was fined five shillings and costs.— George McC'aslin, for depasturing an ass on unenclosed iand, off Ponsonby, on the 22nd instant, was fined five shillings and costs.—Mary Hendry, for allowing two cow 3 to wander on the Carlton Gore lload, was fined five shillings and costs.—Robert Hayson and Patrick Long, for allowing horses to stray, were each fined five shillings anil costs.
Masters and Apprentices Act.—William Small was charged with absenting himself from the service of John Fergusson on the 22nd ultimo, ilr. Tliorne, who appeared for the prosecutor, asked that the charge might be withdrawn, on condition that the prisoner pleaded guilty, expressed regret, and promised to return to his employment. The defendant agreed to the terms offered, and was discharged from custody.
