From the Otago Daily Timcf we extract as follows: " We may allude to the circumstance that Colonial spirits are rapidly taking the place of the lower descriptions of sherry, &c, a declining consumption of these having been very marked for some time back. Stocks of imported bottled ale and stout are rather in excess, and enquiry dull. In tea we hear of no transactions beyond ordinary trade requirements; buyers are looking forward to the arrival of the new season's crops. In sugar, a sale by auction took place on Friday last, at thi rooms of Messrs. McLandress, H«|.bum and Co., of a second shipment, of Messrs. Joshua Bros.", Yarraville Eeßnery Sngars, which was attended by fair results. The prices realised were as follow Snowdrops, £35 15s and £3o 12s Od; tot counter, £S0 10s, £30, £28 15s, £28 10s. Cheese is in slightly improved inquiry for good qualities a better tore prevailing, butter is easier.; iSrreally prime qualities foil prices can be obtained gtilL Candles ar« quiet, but quotations nearly the same, viz., from IOJd to lOgd.ttn kerosene consumption is heavy at this sea-on. but prese.it demands are supplied from stocks; quotations may be given at Is Bd. Galvanised iron is ; the best brands are still held for £35, at which price sales are being effected; but for second brands no quotations and no sales are noted. Cement continues dull, supplies exceeding present requirements. Timber stocks are coming in, but not exceeding the demand. Flour remains at the old quotations.
