SHERIFF'S COURT.
Ak inquiry was held before the Sheriff yesterday. to assess the value of an allotment in ShorUaiid-strect, belonging to Mr. James Williams in. The inquiry was held at the instance of the Improvement Commissioners, who rec.uire the land for public purposes— the '.liah'iug new streets, &c. The Commissioners, we believe, estimate the land at a fi"iire not exceeding £3000. Mr. "Williamson estimates the value at between £7000 and £3000. Mr. Hcsketh appeared for the Commissioners, and Mr. Lusk for Mr. Williamson. The following gentlemen were summoned as a special jury, and answered to their names :—John Gordon (Fo '• man), Thomas Bedford Cameron, John Batger, David Hean, James Butcher Braithwaite, William Thomas James Bell, Barton Ireland, Henry Atkinson, Patrick Dignan, Richard Cameron, Henry Ciltillan, James Robertson, jun. The following witnesses were examined :—Mr. J. Pike, Parnell; Mr. J. S. Macfarlane, Mr. Henry Ridings, Mr. Edgar (dyer). The inquiry had not closed at °a quarter-past four o'clock, when the Court rose.
