POLICE COURT.—TUESDAY.
[Before J. M. Dargaville and G-. S. Graham, Esqs., Justices.] Drunkenness.—Nine persons were punished for the above offence by fine or imprisonment. Larceny.—Richard Taylor was charged with stealing a pair of trousers and a shirt. Tho prisoner said he was guilty, but it was all caused through drink. 'Ihe Bench sentenced him to two months' imprisonment with hard labour. Maucio~s In-jujiy to Propeety.—Michael Mullins, for destroying a jumper, .value £2 103, tho property of Constable Melville, was fined 20s and costs and to pay for the damage to the eoat, or bo imprisoned for seven days with hard labour. Vagrant Act.—Peter .J. Bardaley was chargcd under t.ho abovo Act wit}] endeavouring to impose upon Edward Owens, by means of false pretences, with a view to obtaining money from - the informant. The prisoner pleaded guilty. Inspector Brohatn said that the defendant had been for some time imposing upon residents in the suburbs. Tho Bench sentenced tho prisoner to six months' imprisonment with hard labour. False Pretences.—A charge of false protoneea against Rupert Griffin was, upon the application of Mr. Laishley, adjourned until Friday next.
