RESIDENT MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Feidat. [Before Thomas Beckham, Esq., R.JI.] The ordinary weekly Bitting of tliia Court was held yesterday, and the following business disposed of : — Holmes Beothebs v. John HcGeeiiin.— Claim, £20. Mr. Arms! rong appeared for tbe defendant and confessed judgment. Blackburn v. Joseph Dai.to.n\—Claim £6 15s. This was au action for goods sold and delivered. The defendant did not appear, and judgment passed for plaintiff iu default.

AT. S. Leeks t. Williah Rose.—Claim £3 ISs 6d. The plaintiff said since the action commenced he hud received a bunk draft for the amount, lie only asked tho Court to give him costs. Judgment passed for £1 5s 6d costs.

Thomas Wxxie v. John Adsaxe.—Mr. Thorne for plaintiff. This was a proceeding to compel the defendant to give up the use of a tenement. Notice to quit had been served on the defendant and admitted. But he said his goods had been distrained before any rent was due, and he believed he had a good action for illegally distraining. He was examined, and said he had paid by cash pp to the 6th of January last, and by the proceed cf the distraint up to the 15th of the present month. His Worship said in the case of such evidenee, there being no evidence offered on the other side to rebut the defendant's «6atement, there was no alternative but to nonsHit the plaintiff. Nonsuited accordingly.
