THE CONDUCT OF JULIUS VOGEL REVIEWED.
The Napier Telegraph, in the course of an article, says :—" The colonists have become tired of old political parties which have so long ruled "New Zealand, and Mr. Yogel will learn that the time ia fust approaching when new combinations will arise from the asbes of the old, and he is but hurrying the day on. He is too astute a politician not to bo aware that his Ministry only hold office on sufferance, because no man with the slightest §lired of a political reputation to lose, cares to take the helm of affairs at present. Mr. Yogel has been permitted to sow, and he has been asked to reap; but his present course of action will naturally have a strong tendency to arouse in the minds of the electors the questions : Why should we any loDger permit a man to govern us who cannot govern himself ? Or why, should we permit men to pretend to represent ua whoße only object is their own ambition, —who allow one man arrogantly to usurp all power, and bid defiance to the interests of the colonists as a whole, —who, in reality, has no statesmanlike policy, but a policy of pitting province against province, of buying up votes, and sticking to office like a limpet to a rock. We warn Mr. Yogel and his colleagues, that they are now treading on treacherous ground. They may ieel confidence in believing that they are bound to receive the- support of political backsliders, who have not the courage again to face their constituents, knowing how com-" pletely they have forfeited their confidence. Mr. Yogel's overbearing temper, it appears, will be even too much for those who have not completely fallen, and ae is not unlikely to find that when all appears bright and clear ahead, he. has by his petulance and arrogance forced on his retirement from hia present prond petition.'
