POLICE COURT.—Friday.
[Before His Worship the Mayor J DbU.nkkNNESS. —Two persons were each fined 5j and costs for this otl'ence. City Bi-iaws.—The following persons were each fined ss. and costs, under the above by-laws, for riding or driving round stroet cornora,at a pace other than a walk : —James Beavers, Wm. Cobley, Charles McMillan, A. Pulling, and Rabt. Neil.—Maria Yeoman, for allowing a goat to depasture on unenclosed land, was fined 1b and costß. <
Municipal Police Act. —Jamas Beavers, for driving a vehicle without having his name painted on it, wus fined ss. and coats. Lunacx. —John Smith was brought before the Court as being of unsound mind. Mr. Broham explained that the defendant, who was a helpless imbecile, had been brought from Fiji by the Star of the South, having been sent here by tho Prime Minister of Fiji, who had puid hia passage. The unfortunate imbecile had held a very good position in Ota<*o, and hud also traded successfully in Sydney. When at Levuka ho had mot with reverses, and had lost tho use of his reasoning fuoulties. He did not think that the colony should bo put to the expense of maintaining lunatics from Fiji, and he was of opinion that the defendant should be sent back again to Levuka. The case was remanded until this morning, in order that the Deputy-Superinten-dent might be communicated with on the subject. ; '
