Smith and Anderson. INTERIM SECRETARY; Mr. Richard H. Leary. There is no branch of commercial enterprise in New Zealand which presents such a favourable opening for the investment of capital as that of Fire and Marine Insurance. Tho success which has attended the establishment of tho "New Zealand" and " South British " Compauies, is a proof of this. The business of Fire and Marine lusuranco is so rapidly increasing, that there is ample room for another company in this colony. Largely-increased facilities for covering this class of risk arc imperatively required, and the National Insurance Company is founded to supply this want. Tim company is not started in opposition to any of the other New Zealand Companies, but is intended to co operate with them in fostering the Trade aud Commerce of the colony, aud concentrating in the country the large capital which is annually drafted out of it by foreign insurance companies. In order to make this a purely colonial company, and to ensure a large amount of business through the influence of its shareholders, it is proposed to distribute the shares over the whole colony, and in their allotment to keep in view the ability of shareholders to influence business to the Company. 60,000 Shares will be reserved for the Northern provinces. The operations of this Company will be conducted on sound principles, and extreme caution will be exercised in the selection of risks. It is intended that the Articles of Association shall provide for the Election of Local Boards of Directors by tho shareholders in the chief commercial centres of the colony. The amount proposed to bo called up will, it is estimated, be a Sufficient Paid-up Capital to warrant tho Company in commencing operations, and it is not anticipated that any furtiikk Call will be necessary. The Provisional Directors have secured the services of Mr, A. Hill Jack, the present Resident Secretary of the Victoria losurance Company in New Zealand, as Gknbkal Manaokr of this Company. Applications for Shares will be received by the Brandies of the National Bank of New Zealand in the various province-?, and by HENDERSON AND MACFARLANE, 14, Queen-street, Auckland.
