He was escorted by a number of friends to (be Tauranga Hotel. This day be addressed a large meeting of the native electors. Several chiefs spoke in his favour, and a vote of confidence was carried unanimously and by acclamation. Three cheers were given for "Williamson, the Queen, Duke of Edinburgh, and the new Governor. The European electors will meet to-night. Napieb, Thursday, 5 pm. The station known as Coleman's has been sold to the firm of Watt, Bros., for £30,500. The station consists of freehold to the extent 10,000 acres, the whole of which is splendid agricultural land, divided into paddocks, and laid down with the finest kinds of English grass. There are also on the run 8000 sheep of superior quality, and 00 head of cattle. Mr. Robert Farmer, of Auckland, who has a share in the purchase, will manage the station, and will arrive here by the Comerang. It has been found necessary to build a new slaughterhouse, the consumption of meat in Napier having been doubled since last year. Wellington, Thursday, 6.45 p.m. Arrived : Wanganui from Napier, Wellington from North, Camille from Newcastle.

Wakganci, Thursday, 6 p.m. Considerable alarm was felt here last evening, bv an exceedingly smart shock of an earthquake. The Paterson has arrived here with navvies for the Hutt railway. Xttteiton, Thursday, 6.45 p.m. The Education Board refused to take over convent schools, being too denominational. The amount of aid to be granted to each district is to be bused on die amount raised. CnnisTCHUECH, Thursday, 7 p.m. On the motion for tho second reading of the Appropriation Bill, a new clause was proposed, that all public works included in the estimates above the value of a hundred pounds be put up to public tenders. The Speaker ruled the amendment out of order, as it was not competent for the House to attach the condition to the vote. An association of co-operative masons advertise that they will do work cheaper than builders. A similar association of journeyman tailors is projected. In the prorogation Bpeech of the Supers intendent he thanks the Council for their liberal votes. A telegram was read in Council, announcing that the ship Cospatrick brings eighteen immigrants to Cauterbury, amidst derisive cheers. DnNEDiN, Thursday, 7 p.m. Mr. Stone has been requested to stand for Waikomiti. Mr. Macandrew's present majority is over 1010. 8 p.m. The following returns are to hand: —Black's : Maeandrew, 20; Gillies, 7. Drybread : Macandrew, 27; Gillies, 6. At Naseby a boy nine months old swallowed a glass marble. For ten minutes he wbb apparently lifeless. Before it ivas extracted Dr. Dick kept artificial respiration up for two hours, which succeeded. The parents left the child as dead. The trout turned out at Queenstown are a great success. They are now seen in large numbers. The -Lakes election : Only the Queenstown and Arrow returns are in yet.
