BAY OF ISL.ODS.

[FJOlt OTJH OWN CORBESPOSDESr.] Nothing Tery sensational has transpired here this week. The barque Eaitibow has, however, been in trouble again, and no sooner had the excitement of the stabbing ea«e subsided, than the slumbering village was awakened by the discharge of firearms in the harbour at about 4 o'clock a.m. Several terrified villagers l-ushed out in their nightdresses, expecting to see nothing less than the Caakowiski piloted up the Bay by the Editor of the Southern Cross, or ut least a flout uf war canoes from the Waikato. As it turned out, however, it was nothing more alarming than the escape of three of the crew of the .Rainbow, who managed to gel ofr with one of the ship's boats, and the firing was tho ingenious thought of the chief officer to give the alarm, and frighten the thieves. Search has eiuco been made rouud the harbour and along the coast, but at this present writing no traces of either iveu or boat had been found. It is uimost certain, however, that they will be captured, as itwould be impossible for them to land anywhere along the coast without causing suspicion of their being run-aways. Two >vhalcrs came into port this morning. The California, Captain Chase, and the Eliza, Captiin Diamond. The former with 700 barrels sperm oil, and the latter with 203 fc-rrels. Captain Chase informs me that he spoke the Auckland whaler Albion, and that Captain TTaH had not at that time done much ; but we hope to hear that his luck has improved, as he is a great favourite here, and known to be an expert and experienced whaleman. I understand that. Marsh Brown nud Wynyard, two chiefs of Ngapuhi, go to Auckland this week to offer their services against the Waikatos, who have ever been their sworn enemies.
