As an instance of the facilities afforded in Auckland for discharging cargo, we might mention that the steamship Victoria has been discharged in less than four full working days ; and when we consider that this lino vessel brought to this port between sixteen and seventeen hundred tons of cargo, the whole of which has now been cleared out, we think we are justilied in saying that this reflects cn-eat credit upon those who wero employed to discharge the cargo. Two steam winches have been constant!y going, a "d tllo celerity with which piles of goods wero brought from the vessel's hold and placed upon the wharf was something astoni.-hiug. Indeed, the cargo was removed from the vessel far quicker than it could be stored away. Tho new sheds which are to be erected upon the outer T will be a greit boon to merelYmrs generally. The fine iron ship Edinburgh Castle, 627 tons, Captain llenry Cupe, was sigualled at Mount Victoria yesterday morning, and anchored in the powder-grounds last evening, after a protracted and chequered passage fro in Loudon. On boarding the vessel, our shipping reporter was kiudly furnished with the following particulars of the passage by Captain Cape:—Tho Edinburgh Castle left London for this port, with a full general cargo and niue intermediate passengers, on the 14th December of lust year. She arrived in the Downs on the 16th. When ofT Beuchy Head she came iu collision with tho Norwegian brigautitie Fergus, carrying away some of her fore-rigging, topgallant bulwarks, and anchor-stock. The brigantine was also injured by the collision, aud had to bear up for Dover. The Edinburgh Castle put back to Deal, and remained there until tho 28lli repairing damages. She then made a second start, and had proceeded as far as the Eddystone lighthouse, when she experienced a heavy gale of wind, which lasted till the 2nd of January, and obliged the ship to put bj.ck to Portland. Hero she remained until the 2411 i, experiencing the full force of the heavy S.W. gales which blew during that period. She finally cleared the Channel on the 26th 'of January. Picked up the X.E. trades in 21 de~. N. 21 deg. W., and crossed the Equator ou'the 24th February. Thence had light S.E. trade winds until passing the island of Trinidad. After this, light easterly winds and heavy squally weather was experienced, from S. to S.S.li. Passed the meridian of Greenwich 61 days out, and the meridian of the Capo on April 1. Kan down her easting between the parallels of 43 dej. and 44 deg. S. long., experiencing westerly winds nearly all the time, and making on an average 200 miles a-day. Reached the coast of Tasmania 95 days out; thence to the Three Kings variable wea'.ber, with heavy thunder aud lightning. Made the North Cape on the Oth instant, and had light battling S. and S.S.W. winds till arrival. The Edinburgh Castle bungs the following passengers : —John AUwood, George Harrison, Mrs. Harrison, Henry Harrison, Alice Harrison, Emily Harrison, Calherine Harpon, Arthur Harpon, and Frederick Harpon. The ship, considering the length of the passage since leaving London, comes into port in a very cleanly condition. There was no sickness during the | vovage, no births, aud no deaths. The Edinburgh Castle comes consigned to Messrs. i Owen and Graham. On discharge of her powder she will come up tho harbour.
