MAUKU.
Saturday last being tho third in the month the usual Government monthly inspection parade of the Forest Rifle Volunteers took place afc-tbe Volunteer Hall, Patumahoe, when a good number mustered, under the command of Major I/usk and Ensign , Crispe, and were put through their usual drill, chiefly skirmishing, by the Drill-instructor, SergeantMajor Mowbray, in which drill the absence of a bugle to give the necessary commands, is greatly felt. Now that the Waiuku, Pukekohe, and Tuakau companies each have their buglers, who aro learning well, it behoves our company, which is the first in the use of the rifle, that they should not be deficient for n trifling bugle, especially when we know those instruments are to be got in Auckland, and the corps havo the serviees of a gentleman well competent to instruct a member in the duties of bugler. ] The library in connection with the Volunteer Hall is well patronised, and as they are,-., about to ..get another grant in aid from the Provincial Council, it will bo a boon to Che settlement.—[Correspondent.]
