ONEHUNGA.
In the Resident Magistrate's Court, on Tuesday, before R. (J. Barstow, Esq., R.M., the follewing cases were heard : — DBUNKENNES3. —Three men, for this offence, were fined in the usual sum. Laboent. — James Haydon wae charged with stealing potatoes, value five shillings, the property of Robert Wynyard. —T. A. Brown deposed that he was crossing Mr. Wynyarde paddock at fire o'closk in the morning, and saw defendant picking up potatoes, and putting them in a bag. When he aaw witness he moved off as quickly as he could. Witness lost sight of him, and went on, meeting him again close to Tiis own home. WH.uesa accused defeudaut of the theft, when he said they were hia own potutoes, which ho
had brought from town the night before, and, getting tired, had left them in the paddock, and he had just been to fetch them.—Defendant's statement was that a bag which he bringing out from Epsom, containing bread, meat, &c, had burst on the road, and which he left in the paddock, and afterwards went for it.—Aβ there waa no positive proof of the contents of the bag, His Worship dismissed the case.
